Design, Technology and Engineering involves designing and making products, mechanisms and electronic circuits to meet the requirements of modern world issues. Students learn how to use traditional hand tools, a wide range of basic and computer controlled machinery whilst the study a range of tasks from year 7 to year 13. GCSE Engineering is an option choice for year 9 students and A level Product Design for further study in the subject with the idea of pursuing at degree level

Key Stage 3 involves:

  • Learning how to work safely in a workshop and how to use the tools and machinery
  • Designing using a range of techniques and computer aided design
  • Produce high quality pieces of written, drawn and practical work

GCSE Engineering involves:

  • Using tools and machinery with knowledge and accuracy
  • Learning about structures, electronics, mechanisms and engineering drawing
  • Completing a range of small and one large project based on a context

A level Product Design involves:

  • Developing a good working knowledge of a wide range of processes
  • Understanding the role of a designer and the wider issues involved
  • Producing complex design and practical pieces based on a project of their own choosing

Where appropriate we aim to visit different speakers, designers and exhibitions to see people who have a career in the design, technology and engineering industries
