For many years now we have raised money for very valuable development projects from parents, alumni, the AHSA and other supporters of the school, via our ‘Building A Brighter Future’ AHS School Fund. These contributions have helped us to achieve so much for our students.
So many of the fantastic facilities around the school are only there because of the generosity and engagement of former and present parents, ranging from the sound and lighting systems in the Main and Harding Halls to the Sports Hall, Sixth Form Centre, and the refurbished Library and Science Laboratories. Wherever a student’s interest lies in school, we can point to the substantial improvements that parental donations have made.
The AHS School Fund
The AHS School Fund is our scheme where parents and alumnae donate monthly by direct debit, or through a one-off donation. It helps to develop the school’s facilities and resources to ensure that every girl is able to fulfil her potential, wherever her strengths lie.
Almost two years ago we surveyed parents about their views on school fundraising and the short summary is that there was a genuine willingness from parents to support their daughter’s education and the school’s development campaigns in a variety of ways. Since then we have asked parents to support the school at reasonably regular intervals and are very grateful to all who have responded so kindly.
Please consider whether you can play your part in providing the best possible facilities for your daughter and for generations of AHS students to come. The Fund is vital to support our development projects; improving and developing both the school’s equipment and its facilities. We have an ambitious schedule of development we would like to complete, partly funded through grants open to us and partly through donations.
Building A Brighter Future In Our 60th Year
As we enter our Sixtieth Year, we are inviting former students and friends of the school to contribute to our Building a Brighter Future Campaign, with the aspiration of refurbishing our Tower Block classrooms in the summer of 2019, subject of course to having sufficient funds.
The ten classrooms in the original 1959 Tower Block are all in need of significant refurbishment to improve the learning environment for the core subjects of Mathematics and Geography.
These rooms are very intensively used for lessons and as form rooms, so investing in them will greatly benefit the maximum number of students.
The plans include:
- Replacing all the lighting, storage, heating and flooring,
- Installing large interactive display screens to replace data projectors.
- Relocating lockers to free up more teaching space.
- Refurbishing the circulation spaces, and stairwells, again with modern LED lighting.
- Improving recycling facilities
We would welcome any donations to help support us with this project. Please consider whether you can play your part in providing the best possible facilities for generations of AHS students to come.
Every donation of whatever size helps, and every penny is put to good use, ultimately benefiting the education of every student at AHS, now and in the future, so please do take the time to consider how you can help.
We are now also able to receive donations electronically via My Donate (please click on the button below)

Already parents are adding new companies to our Matched Giving List. Thank you!
Matched Giving is when a company matches the amount of fundraising an employee gives to a registered charity, as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
Many companies help charities through a matched giving scheme and some will match pound for pound the donations made by its employees to registered charities.
Please check with your employer if they will match your donations to our AHS Fund!
If you are donating to the AHS Fund, your donation may be matched by your employer through Matched Giving. Please enquire with your Human Resources Department or Payroll Department, or alternatively contact Mrs Pexton for a list of companies we know participate in Matched Giving.
‘In Our Element’ and ‘Girls of S17’ Campaign
Thank you to all those who sponsored an Element on our AHS Periodic Table and kindly donated to ‘Girls of S17’ to support our S17 science lab renovation project.
We are very pleased to confirm that we have raised over £27,000 for S17. These donations, together with £55,000 grant funding from the William Harding Charity and the Garfield Weston Foundation and school funds, mean that we will be able to make a significant difference to the laboratory facilities at our school.
This will greatly benefit our current students and students for many years to come.
We have now successfully completed the refurbishment and have just produced our ‘In Our Element’ Periodic Table which is now be displayed outside S17 .
We greatly appreciate your help supporting us to provide our students with an enhanced science teaching and learning environment.
