‘AHS A Level students reap the rewards of their hard work’
Aylesbury High School students were rewarded today when they received their A Level results.
The majority will be heading off next month to universities stretching from Aberdeen and Aberystwyth to Warwick and York, with about 10% of the students deferring their entry until 2017 to allow them to take a gap year, often doing paid work for some months and then going travelling. Like many schools, we are seeing the post-18 picture become more varied as students also embrace the range of non-university options open to them with increasingly attractive apprenticeships and work-based study becoming more popular.
We expect nine students to take up places at Oxford and Cambridge while seven students will be studying medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine.
Almost a quarter of the students achieved 3 A grades at A Level or better and special congratulations go to Mairead Durrant, Jessica Fleming, Beatrice Law, Sarah Mann, Jessica Payne and Soonyiu Yau who all achieved at least 3 A* grades.
Alan Rosen, Headteacher of Aylesbury High School, said, “These results are a real tribute to the students’ dedication and talent and we must not forget all the teachers and support staff who have inspired and encouraged them throughout both their primary and secondary education. It is fascinating to see the impressive range of courses that our students are going to study, starting with Accounting, Aerospace Engineering, Animal Therapy and Archaeology, going all the way to Zoology.
This set of students have not only achieved creditable exam results but have been really active during their time at Aylesbury High School, supporting charities and doing community service, going on trips and expeditions, and enjoying themselves as well. We wish them the very best for the future.”
