‘The show must go on’ as they say, and with Year 9 being invited to take up the 2021 House Drama challenge – it is in safe hands! The competition naturally had to be re-thought this year to maintain year group bubbles and social distancing and so we entered the English Speaking Union’s ‘Performing Shakespeare’ competition. Instead of the usual group pieces, each participant picks their own 2 minute Shakespeare monologue to learn and perform in addition to explaining why she chose it, what was it that she was inspired by and what does she hope to convey and express in the performance.
Over 30 students are involved from all Houses in Year 9 and are ably supported by the team of Drama Ambassadors who meet with them each week for a coaching session. The next stage will be internal video submission and then a school-based panel of judges will decide which entries are put forward to the national competition! We are delighted to be able to offer a semi-normal event in these difficult times and hope to reveal the finalists towards the Easter holiday!
